The Socorro Field Office manages 1.5 million acres of surface and 6 million acres of subsurface public lands within Socorro and Catron counties. Located in south-central and western New Mexico, the area is bisected by the Rio Grande. The landscape contains diverse and scenic plants, animals, and geology in a wide variety of environments and demonstrates an engrossing history of human occupation from the times of the Ice Age to the Atomic Age.
