Energy Efficiency Land Conservation Assistance Network

Land Conservation Assistance Network’s work including the agricultural climate change initiative is national in scope. Each element of the project is designed to appeal to and support farmers nationally. With over 71% of U.S. land in private ownership, the greatest opportunity to positively impact and slow factors affecting climate change comes from educating and working with the private landowner to develop conservation easements and establish other conservation stewardship initiatives on their land.

960 Million Acres

land protection Land Conservation Assistance NetworkMuch of this land, approximately 960 million acres, is in agricultural production. Farmers are among the most drastically impacted by climate change as we witnessed the impact of the drought and heat on U.S. farm production in 2012. Conversely agricultural production accounts for nearly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions globally. According to Jessica Owley of SUNY Buffalo Law School, flexible conservation easements present a viable and attractive method of land protection for addressing climate change issues.

Alternative Enterprise Land Conservation Assistance Network
Farm and Ranch Alternative Enterprise and Agritourism Resource Evaluation Guide
Designed to assist farmers and ranchers in identifying alternative enterprises for their farm or ranch. It is a data driven application that allows users to collect and store information for each farmer’s and rancher’s assessment of their natural, family, and community resources.
Dairy Fleetsmart
Dairy Fleetsmart
Dairy Fleet SmartTM was designed to teach fleet managers how their fleet is using fuel, determine reduction opportunities to lower your overhead cost, prioritize improvement areas and improve their carbon footprint. Adopting fuel-efficiency best practices can save trucking companies a substantial amount in fuel costs, while also reducing emissions.
Dairy Save Energy Tool
US Dairy Save Energy Tool
Energy savings translate directly to cost savings and thus improved profitability for the dairy operation. Energy saving also reduces GHG emissions from on-farm energy use, which is about 6 percent of all on-farm GHG emissions from dairies. As part of an overall management plan, a farm energy audit is a tool that removes the guesswork and identifies inefficient equipment.
Energy Estimator Farm Tool-Tillage
Energy Estimator Farm Tool-Tillage
Developed to increase energy awareness in agriculture, the tool estimates diesel fuel use and costs in the production of key crops and compares potential energy savings between conventional tillage and alternative tillage systems.
