Alan Calfee is principal forester for the firm, forest owner and conservationist. He has been practicing forestry in the southwestern corner of Vermont for more than 20 years. He has a Masters degree in Forestry from The University of Vermont and an undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management. Alan has been involved with SmartWood forest certification under the Forest Stewardship Council as an assessor and a project forester in the early years of the green certification movement. Alan has taught at the college level as a visiting instructor at Middlebury College and the University of Vermont. Alan supports forest owner education efforts when and wherever possible and believes strongly in empowering landowners to make wise decisions on the use of their lands that will benefit people and forests for the long-term. Alan has years of practical experience in the implementation of sustainable forest management through his work with hundreds of private, municipal and institutional forest owners controlling more than 25,000 acres of woodland. Additionally, he is a member of the Society of American Foresters and a founding member of the Forest Stewards Guild. Alan is a qualified Tree Farm Inspector for the American Tree Farm System. Alan has received awards for his work from the Society of American Foresters, Take Pride in America and Vermont Coverts Inc.
