Clayton is a 9th generation family farmer who grew up in Indiana. After college, he ran as far away from farming as he could and worked as a computer programmer for a space-based telescope. After buying his first farm share, he realized he really did want to farm and within 18 months had quit his job and moved to Maine to learn how to grow Organic veggies. He first farmed as MOFGA's Farmer-in-Residence in Unity, then rented a farm in Montville before buying his own farm in Etna.
Clayton farms with his family and helps to manage the Farmers' Markets in Bangor and Orono. When he's not up to his elbows in soil, he dusts off his old programming skills to work on projects like Crop Planning Software (for which he got a SARE grant to start) and our own custom farm share webapp.
