Agricultural Mediation Program services are accessible to farmers and ranchers of all types, from animal agriculture and aquaculture to zucchini production and everything in between. Services are also available to agribusinesses, agricultural lenders, and USDA agencies. AMP works to create a dialogue that leads to common ground and dispute resolutions that are acceptable for all parties.
In 1987, when farming faced tough times, the US Congress thought mediation an effective way for producers, lenders, and agencies to settle differences and to keep farmers farming. The agricultural mediation program was reauthorized in subsequent Farm Bills and remains available today through a grant program administered by the USDA-Farm Service Agency. Services are delivered by both the Michigan and Florida Agricultural Mediation Programs.
