Georgia Forestry Association

The Georgia Forestry Association (GFA) is the leading advocate for a healthy business and political climate for Georgia’s forest environment, forest landowners and forest-based businesses.

When GFA was founded in 1907, tree farming was a family enterprise, and land was passed from generation to generation. Building upon these family traditions, GFA was established as a continuation of this heritage and a love of the land. Georgia’s forests are vital to the lives of many state residents, from private landowners and foresters, to loggers and thousands of others employed by the forestry community.

Ninety-one percent of Georgia’s forests, which cover two-thirds of the land area of the state, are privately owned. The majority of that land is owned by tens of thousands of private, non-industrial landowners whose stewardship serves to clean the state’s water and air while providing valuable wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation. For more than a century, these working forests have turned the state’s most plentiful, renewable, natural resource – trees – into jobs and tax dollars, while providing direct environmental benefits to Georgia citizens.
