Hall Creek Barrens Natural Area, Cleveland County, acquired in cooperation with the Arkansas Field Office of The Nature Conservancy, is a diverse property containing saline glades, mound woodlands, pine-hardwood flatwoods, wet hardwood flatwoods, and bottomland hardwood forests. The unique, salty soil at this natural area provides habitat for the federally threatened plant geocarpon (Geocarpon minimum) as well as nine other plant species of concern. The site also supports a small population of wintering Henslow’s Sparrows (Ammodramus henslowii), one of the fastest declining songbirds in eastern North America. Funding for this land acquisition was provided through a grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council and a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Recovery Land Acquisitions grant.

Directions
From Kingsland, travel 6.4 miles south on AR-189. Turn left on Mt. Elba Road. Travel northeast for 1.2 miles, then turn left onto Hall Creek Deer Camp Road. The natural area is .3 miles ahead.
