We are part of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service’s statewide network and the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture. Our mission is to provide research-based information through non-formal education to help all Arkansans improve their economic well-being and the quality of lives. Whether it is agriculture, 4-H, health and living, or community development, the Hot Spring County Extension Office is at your service!
Agriculture
The Hot Spring County Extension Service provides information needed by producers from hay production to beef genetics. Since producers have experienced an overpopulation of weeds in their fields due to major drought conditions recently, Extension staff has concentrated on weed control and performed numerous weed control demonstrations during regular farm visits.
Knowledge gained from training and education has helped producers purchase appropriate chemicals to control different weed problems. Producers have become aware of lost yieldage occurring on their farms from either lack of nutrients or weed canopy cover over their established grasses. Utilizing weed control practices and some established rotational grazing, county producers have saved thousands of dollars on hay and winter feeding costs. These savings are being put back into the land by fertilizing and spraying areas left untreated before due to lack of funds.
Contact our county office for more information on services, education and training for county producers and homeowners.
