Mission
To be guardian of the James River. We provide a voice for the river and take action to promote conservation and responsible stewardship of its natural resources. We achieve these goals through four core programs: Watershed Restoration; Education and Outreach; River Advocacy; and our Riverkeeper program.
The James River Association was established in 1976 as the Lower James River Association by a group of concerned citizens living along the James River. In the mid-1990’s the name was changed to the present James River Association to reflect its involvement in conserving the entire length of the James River and the tributaries that comprise the watershed.
Today, this member-supported nonprofit organization helps people of all ages enjoy, appreciate and protect the beauty and health of the James River for future generations to enjoy.
