My current work involves working with private forestland owners in all aspects of forest management including timber sales, timberland sales, forest management plans, timber inventories and appraisals, wildlife habitat management, hunting leases, tree planting, timber stand improvement, thinnings, road layout and construction.
Education:
BS in Forestry in 1978 from NC State University; numerous short courses and seminars
Experience:
Started as Consultant in 1982. Prior to that my experience included: technician with US Forest Service; procurement forester for private sawmill; junior forester in established consulting firm.
Success story:
Recently, I worked with a landowner who had inherited more than 20 separate tracts of woodland along with other more valuable assets. The landowner was overwhelmed by the task of managing all the family assests so managing the forestland was always at the bottom of the priorities list partly because this was the asset class that the landowner knew the least about. My company was able to organize the management of the woodland properties and lift much of the burden of management from the landowner's shoulders. The landowner is now confident and secure in the fact that this asset class is being managed properly, and that the family's woodland assets are holding their own and being productive as compared to the other assets owned by the family.
