Jim Kress Wildlife Management Area

The Jim Kress Wildlife Management Area located in Cleburne County offers hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, squirrel, quail, and other small game. Habitat varies form upland hardwood, mixed pine/hardwood, to pine. The WMA boundary is marked with orange paint. A leased land permit is required to hunt or trap the WMA. ATVs and ORVs (off road vehicles) may be used for hunting purposes recreational riding is prohibited. Horses and mules may be used for hunting purposes. Organized trail rides are prohibited from October 1 - January 31 and from April 1 - May 31. Permits are required for organized events of more than ten horses or mules and are restricted to open, maintained roads. Dogs may be used to hunt rabbit and squirrel when no muzzleloader or modern gun deer season is open. Seasonal gates are closed January - September. Big Creek Natural Area located in two tracts along the south of the area has special regulations.
