The Jones County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), a legal subdivision of the State of Mississppi, was organized in 1939 by local landowners interested in conserving our area's soil, water, and related resources.
The district is a governing body made up of five elected commissioners and five deputy commissioners who serve without pay, because they feel that their work is worthwhile and helpful to the citizens of Jones County.
The District can assist landowners with site selection, design, and layout of ponds, as well as engineering needs. Advice on such topics as fish pon...ds, pond maintenance, grasses, erosion control, gardening, forestry, grazing, wildflowers, and wildlife habitats is available. The District can offer information on soils in Jones County. Soil maps, descriptions, topographical maps, and historical photography are available.
