Kane-DuPage SWCD is a public body made up of citizens concerned with the protection of our natural resources. It is governed by a five-member board of directors elected by District landowners and residents. This board of directors, the District staff and the District conservationist assigned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) develop annual and long range plans that direct the activities of the District and NRCS.
District Programs
Conservation Practices Program (CPP)
Cost share funding is made available through the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture for various conservation practices on cropland. The SWCD determines the practices offered in the program, prioritized requests and oversees the programs. NRCS provides technical assistance necessary to implement the work.
Education Programming
An Education Coordinator is on staff to meet the growing needs of classroom outreach programming for K through 12. Workshops in Project Learning Tree, Project Wet etc. are also available. A series of adult programming is also offered, as well as scholarship and grant opportunities.
Envirothon
The Envirothon is an annual competition, which gives students the opportunity to learn about the environment and the role of individuals in natural resource management. Local competition is held in early April.
