The Kendall Soil & Water Conservation District's organizational goal is conservation education of the public in Kendall County - all citizens and all ages. Our educational outreach is achieved several ways.
We publish a district newsletter intended to reach primarily rural landowners involved with soil conservation programs, but is open to anyone interested in receiving it. Call or email if you would like to receive our newsletter.
- We hold annual educational seminars with speakers and/or field tours.
- We provide appropriate conservation education literature to schools and 4H groups.
- We award a small scholarship to one or two deserving high-school graduates from Kendall County who will be entering an agriculture-related field.
- We sponsor students who attend the Texas Section of the Society for Range Management Youth Workshop and the Buckskin Brigades.
- We sponsor teachers who attend the Teacher's Workshop in Johnson City every June.
- We work very closely with the Hill Country Prescribed Burning Association to achieve a common goal of the safe use of fire as an economical brush management tool.
- As a co-sponsor of four flood control structures in the county, we participate in the regular inspections of these structures.
- We participate in fund raising activities such as fish sales and gate signs to help fund our activities.
