Kenneth Real knows that land management isnt for everybody. It takes a special kind of person to want to be out in the heat, snakes and ticks, he said. Its not a job for just anybody.
But Real discovered pretty early on in his career that it was probably meant for him. After working in the industry several years at a sawmill, he got the itch to go out on his own and start his own timberland management company, Realwood, Inc. Ive never once regretted that decision, he said. It is tough sometimes, and it is demanding. But to me, its a great profession.
Located in Detroit, Alabama, Real works all over northwest Alabama, northeast Mississippi and into Tennessee. Hes even had clients call him from as far away as California, Connecticut and Great Britain. They want to invest in timberland, and while Im not a realtor, I was able to help them find land and then advise them through the purchasing process, he explained. Now I manage it for them.
