The Ranching For Wildlife Program on the LK Ranch allows for private, public, and youth hunters. Elk/deer seasons begin September 1 and ends December 16, with the late season antler-less hunts lasting through January. Private archery elk hunts take place September 1-14. Private rifle hunts take place during the last two weeks of September, normally during the peak of the rut. October hunts coincide with the general public seasons taking place on our neighboring National Forest, normally resulting in new herds of elk coming onto LK throughout the general season. The public bull elk and mule deer buck hunt on LK may be applied for through the draw system in unit 23. Generally as many as 15 preference points are required to draw the LK public bull or mule deer buck tags. All applications must be submitted to D.O.W., whose results are normally announced around April 1, annually.
