LandCAN

Land Conservation Foundation

LCF was founded in 2003 serving seven counties in East Central Illinois. LCF has focused efforts on the Sangamon River in Piatt and Champaign counties. The Sangamon River is on the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory for its rich variety of aquatic resources, especially freshwater mussels, including the state endangered slippershell mussel (Alasmidonta viridis) and the threatened mudpuppy (Necturus maculosus). The Sangamon River is also a key recharge area for the Mahomet Aquifer that provides drinking water for area residents.

LCF’s mission is to preserve and restore natural communities in East Central Illinois, to create interconnected corridors, to provide wildlife habitat, and connect people and nature for future generations.
