Comments: The main objective of the mitigation project is to restore and preserve stream channel and riparian corridor habitats while providing enhanced water quality and wildlife habitat. The proposed mitigation project would preserve and restore approximately 2,650 linear feet of perennial stream channel and the associated riparian corridor, generating 6,503.75 stream credits. The proposed work will benefit habitat types that have historically been a part of the Castor River watershed and are increasingly becoming affected by human population growth as well as expanded agricultural practices. These land use changes that ultimately increase storm water runoff and pollution. The restoration and protection of stream habitats, such as the ones proposed, will help control, store, and filter runoff. This mitigation project proposed by the Land Learning Foundation (Sponsor) represents an opportunity to protect restore and protect high quality stream and riparian corridor habitats in an area that has been impacted by widespread agricultural development and other land use changes.
