Raised in the heart of Louisiana, Dr. Lauren Underwood's passion for animals began at an early age. Since she was 8 years old, she competed in hunter/jumper events and continued competing throughout college. Owning her horse, Dan, led her to be in close contact with veterinarians which sparked her interest in pursuing a career in the veterinary field. She attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she obtained her Bachelors in Animal Science degree in December 2013. While in undergrad, she worked at both small animal hospitals and an equine hospital to understand and see the workings of all aspects of veterinary medicine. Equine medicine interested Lauren the most and lead her to concentrate on equine throughout vet school. In August 2014, Lauren began veterinary school at Louisiana State University. She was an active member of AAEP and SFT (society for theriogenology) and graduated with honors in May 2018. All aspects of equine medicine interest Lauren, but she has specific enthusiasm for neonatal care and theriogenology.
In June 2019, Dr. Underwood successfully completed a one year internship at Texas Equine Hospital and was then hired on as an associate veterinarian. In 2018, during her intern year, she also obtained her IVCA (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association) certification and fulfills all the chiropractic needs of the hospital.
