Livingston Parish was created on February 10, 1832 and was originally part of the Florida Parishes. Livingston Parish was one of the earliest settled parishes, with both French and Spanish colonists settling here in the early 1700s in the Lake Maurepas area. Livingston Parish consists of 642 square miles on 410,880 acres. The geographical landscape of the parish varies from rolling terrain covered by slash pine and hardwood forests in the north to rich cypress forests and marshes that border on Lake Maurepas and the Amite River in the south. There has been tremendous population growth in recent years. 

Agriculture & Natural Resources

Agricultural profitability is the key to agricultural producers staying in business. It is important that they make good business decisions to go along with good production practices. We put on 1 tomato demonstration to look for rootstocks that have bacterial wilt resistance because some of our farmers lose as much as 80% of their crop to bacterial wilt. We are putting on a second tomato demonstration to look at heirloom tomato varieties which are used in farmers markets and other direct sales tomato markets to evaluate their production and taste qualities. We also held field days for beef producers to look at economic factors influencing the cattle markets.. Conducted a forestry tour to show landowners different potential markets and investigated Chinese tallow markets at their Annual meeting.
