Matt Walters, a sales associate in the Golden Triangle office is a Mississippi Registered Forester (#2302) who has owned and operated Walters Forestry Services since 2003. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in forestry/wildlife. He is a certified prescribed fire manager, a Tree Farm Inspector, and has experience in many different fields of forestry and land management. Throughout his career Matt has worked with multiple state and federal agencies including the Mississippi Institute for Forest Inventory (MIFI), with whom he has helped inventory over 30 Mississippi counties. Timber sales, appraisals, prescribed burning, timber marking, and management recommendations are just a few facets of forestry that Matt works in. He’s done forest inventories in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. He is currently working with a group of landowners in south Louisiana, helping to promote active forest management of bottomland hardwoods in their area. Recently, Matt’s niche has become wildlife oriented forest management. He has worked alongside wildlife biologists such as Bob Griffin, Rick Kaminski, as well as the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) to develop and oversee forest management activities that help to enhance habitat conditions and improve hunting opportunities. Matt loves what he does and enjoys helping land owners achieve their management objectives in a timely and economical fashion. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys saltwater fishing, hunting, and bowfishing, and feels that his love for the outdoors along with his education, experience, and cheerful personality are the reasons why many of his clients have become lifelong friends. Matt has been a close affiliate and friend of the Mississippi Land group for many years and in 2007 it only seemed natural for him to obtain his sales license and join the ranks of what he feels is the most qualified and honest group of land professionals in the state.
