His previous professional work included two years part time as a forestry consultant while stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, and one and a half years as a procurement forester for Rogers-Ramsey Lumber Company in Ahoskie, North Carolina. The firm, Michael D. Neal & Associates, was incorporated in 1978 with its office located in Colerain, North Carolina. A second office was opened at 754 NC Hwy. 11 N, Ahoskie, North Carolina in November 2006.
