Morehouse Parish, located in the northeastern part of Louisiana, is bound by the state of Arkansas to the north; the Boeuf River on the east and south; and the Ouachita River on the west. Bastrop, the government seat, is the largest town. Chemin-A-Haut State Park is situated on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew and is a natural paradise for lovers of unspoiled beauty. Big Slough Lake, located near the edge of the park, offers an opportunity to fish from the shore.
Agriculture and Natural Resources
We hold parishwide growers meeting that provide knowledge of pesticide safety, water quality issues and research based information on corn, soybeans and cotton. Grain crops continue to be the overall favorite commodity grown in Morehouse Parish. More than 100 producers received knowledge of farm profitability and environmental education at SU AgCenters annual Parish Crop Tour in July 2012.
