NCCC began in 1989 with a primary focus on creating a greenway from the river to the gorge. While these efforts continue, the organization began acquiring land from Bowater and other large landowners in order to secure space for the State Natural Area that currently spans from the Flipper Bend on the south rim of the Gorge to the upper reaches of Cain and North Chickamauga Creek. NCCC has also been an advocate for the protection of the creek as a vital natural resource. We have advocated for more responsible development along the banks of the creek, especially as it runs through Hixson, and we have fought hard to make sure that municipalities recognize and protect what is an Exceptional Water of the State.
