The mission of the Ohio Prescribed Fire Council is to foster cooperation among the prescribed fire community, while promoting the safe use of prescribed fire as a natural resource management tool for Ohio’s ecosystems.  The Council was formed in 2014 with the following objectives:

1. Facilitate collaboration and sharing of information within the prescribed fire community.
2. Provide education and outreach to improve public understanding of the benefits of prescribed burning and the role of fire in managing Ohio’s ecosystems.
3. Cooperatively review prescribed fire practices, regulations, and policies to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
4. Foster support for the continued science-based use of prescribed fire as a resource management tool.
5. Promote prescribed fire safety and related training opportunities.
6. Support prescribed fire research and facilitate sharing of findings.
