In 2020, affiliates of Lyme acquired Opal Mountain Ranch, 17,000 acres of contiguous forestland in central Oregon that borders national forestland and contains miles of fish-bearing streams targeted for conservation. The property features views of surrounding mountains including Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Broken Top, and Three Sisters.
Opal Mountain Ranch’s timber stocking is significantly higher than the regional average. In the early phases of the investment, Lyme initiated a forest carbon sequestration project to keep the forest intact and supplement cash flows. We are focused on optimizing forest health and generating cash flow by selling carbon offsets, harvesting timber, and/or monetizing conservation values.
