Nestled in Warren, Maine, Oyster River Winegrowers is a small farm winery crafting lively wines and ciders since 2007. Embracing a low-intervention approach, we utilize both our own organically managed fruit and source from growers in the Northeast. Our barn transforms into a bustling gathering spot during summer, attracting adventurous wine enthusiasts from near and far.
Brian Smith, our winemaker, brings a traditional education in winemaking from Fresno State University, infusing distinct flavors reminiscent of pre-industrial times. With a belief in nature's role as the primary guide, most of our fermentations begin spontaneously with wild yeasts, showcasing the natural chemistry of the fruit over several months. Our ciders and sparkling wines are bottled without sulfites or filtration, while minimal sulfites are added to our still wines when necessary.
Our vineyards boast an array of varieties, including LaCrescent, Vidal Blanc, L’Acadie Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Marquette, Sabrevois, and St. Croix, managed organically alongside our orchards. While initially cultivated entirely by draft horse power and hand, our vineyards transitioned to meet growing demands in 2017, symbolizing our commitment to innovation and excellence. As we continue to explore and refine our craft, we're grateful for the support of our fans who join us on this exciting journey.
