The PVGA is a Marketing Cooperative of New England produce growers. Started in 1978 by eight growers, the PVGA began its first marketing season in 1981 with sales of $52,000. Sales continued to grow from there and have ranged between $1.8 million and $3.2 million during the past 10 years. The PVGA is currently managed by a board of directors, who are elected by the members of the co-op.
Each season 80 or so members and non-members ship through the co-op. Throughout the years, the facilities at the PVGA have expanded to include two coolers and an eleven-bay loading dock. The sales and billing offices have also grown to include a network of computers that facilitate billings and payments.
The PVGA markets include most of the large New England supermarket chains, as well as small independents, farmstands and sometimes distant markets to take advantage of high prices.
