Plants Unlimited opened for business on March 2, 1978 in a typical early spring snowstorm! The only warmth felt that day was the glow from the little PINK building we first occupied as well as the response from our first customers who braved the weather and visited us at our first site, across from Pen-Bay hospital. Opened on "a wing and a prayer", by Hammon Buck, (a recent graduate (1977) of Cornell University), Plants Unlimited sold a few houseplants, trees and shrubs and plant products that year.

Gradually, the business grew to include all products you might expect at a garden center - but only on 2 acres of land! Sometimes, trucks were unloaded on the edge of route 1 and customers often had to park there too! The pink building had been stained brown, 2 greenhouses were eventually built and Plants Unlimited ran out of room!

In 1988, the former Rockland Drive-In - our present location - was purchased and Plants Unlimited opened in March of 1989 (in a snowstorm of course). Our present shop is the former concession stand that was at the Drive-In: the screen was located on route 1 and much of its lumber was converted into the arbor that wraps around our building. More important, our present 26 acres gives us ample room now and much needed room to grow in the future!

Our goal is always quality product, service to our customers and always creating a beautiful garden center with unusual products and fun at every turn for you!
