The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, through volunteer efforts, education and advocacy, maintains and protects the Appalachian Trail and nearby lands as well as acquiring and maintaining other trails and related facilities in the Mid-Atlantic region for the enjoyment of present and future hikers.
PATC is a 501(c) (3) non-profit with headquarters located in Vienna, Virginia. The 90-year-old club is governed by volunteer officers and assisted by a professional staff. We oversee 42 cabins and 45 shelters for hikers. We own and manage lands that protect the trail. We have more than 1,000+ active volunteers who annually contribute over 100,000 hours of volunteer activity, mostly trail and facility maintenance. PATC is renowned for its volunteer-produced maps that cover most of the trails we maintain, and books that describe the trails and their history.
