The Quartz Valley Area Fire Safe Council is an organization of local residents dedicated to improving the capacity of our community to minimize the potential damage from catastrophic wildfires and improve overall public safety.

Property owners interested in protecting their properties and the surrounding area from catastrophic wildfire formed the Quartz Valley Area Fire Safe Council in 2005. It is estimated that there are over 200 residences in the Quartz Valley Area Fire Safe Council.

In addition, the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management administer significant portions of the Shackleford Creek Watershed and the upland portions of the west side of Quartz Valley. This includes Quartz Hill and the Marble Mountain Wilderness Area.

Both the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management are collaborators in the Quartz Valley Fire Safe Council planning efforts and the Fire Safe Council planning efforts are integrated with the agency fire management plans for this area.

Additionally, the Quartz Valley Indian Reservation is a member of the Quartz Valley Fire Safe Council and has been an active collaborator in the fire protection efforts for the area.

This integrated collaboration is a key for public agencies and private land holders to work together for education and ultimately the coordinated fire protection of the values that exist throughout the area.
