Mountain States’ roots run deep in West Virginia’s land and timber industry. Mr. R.P. "Dick" Grist began purchasing land and timber in West Virginia’s southern coal fields in 1949. A graduate of the Iowa State Forestry School, Mr. Grist was a driving force in the industry until his retirement in 1992. Richard worked several years as a forester in North Carolina and then spent 17 years buying land and timber for Grist Lumber. Richard is president of Mountain State Land & Timber and oversees both the Timber and Real Estate Divisions .
