Richland Parish is located in northeast Louisiana in the area known as the North Louisiana Delta County. It lies in the center of a circle of seven parishes with similar geographic characteristics. Starting with Morehouse to the north, and proceeding clockwise, the parishes are West Carroll, East Carroll, Madison, Franklin, and Caldwell, ending with Ouachita Parish to the west. While Richland Parish offers all of the business amenities and services that appeal to commercial establishments, it also affords its residents a high quality of life with good schools, low crime rates and abundant recreational opportunities.
Agriculture and Natural Resources
Fifty producers attended the Northeast La. Irrigation Workshop at the Delhi Civic Center where they received the latest research-based information on water and pump efficiency, use of surface water and groundwater salinity issues. Sixty producers attended the Northeast Louisiana Rice Forum at the Rayville Civic Center where they received the latest research-based rice production information as well as efforts to market U.S. rice worldwide. Two pesticide recertification meetings were held where 90 producers and home gardeners learned pesticide safety, handling, disposal and renewed their private applicator’s card. More than 250 youth participated in the Northeast District Livestock Show in Delhi and were recognized for exhibition, showmanship and knowledge of livestock projects. More than 600 homeowners/gardeners were provided technical assistance with home gardening, lawns, trees, ornamentals and recreational ponds in areas of pest management, fertility, irrigation and weed control. Fifty producers and ag professionals attended the Northeast Louisiana Rice and Soybean field day, receiving the latest research-based information on rice varieties and fertilization as well as soybean varieties and production practices.
