Sabine Parish is popularly referred to as Toledo Bend Country, for its 186,000-acre man-made reservoir filled with bass, bream, crappie and catfish. While Sabine Parish offers all of the business amenities and services which appeal to commercial establishments, it also affords its residents a high quality of life with good schools, low crime rates and abundant recreational opportunities. On the economic front, Toledo Bend Lake Country has become known as the Land of Green Gold on many fronts, as this area’s most prominent industry of more than a century is the timber and forestry industry.

Sabine Parish has many retired people that move into the Parish because of the countless recreational events around Toledo Bend Lake. Many of these citizens take pride in their lawns and gardens. The Sabine Parish Master Gardeners have planned several educational programs, such as the Down & Dirty Seminars at Cypress Bend, Master Gardener’s seminars at the local feed and seed stores and Educational Demonstrations at the Zwolle Tamale Educational Festival. Over 43 active Master Gardeners have taught lessons where well over 450 citizens of Sabine Parish have gained knowledge on landscape design, improved landscape plants and planting a garden by attending these educational events.
