Conservation Commission

Purpose: To properly utilize and protect the Town's natural resources.

Members: The Salisbury Conservation Commission consists of seven local volunteers with diverse backgrounds appointed by the Board of Selectmen who have an interest in the town's natural resources.

Meetings: First Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Meetings are posted and held at Academy Hall.

How You Can Become Involved: Everyone is cordially invited to attend meetings. Feel free to come to learn about local issues, or let the commission know about your opinions and knowledge of local natural resource issues such as wetlands, woodlands, watersheds, animal and plant species. Please contact the Board of Selectmen if you would like to become a member.

Responsibilities: The commission shall:

conduct researches into its local land and water areas,
seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes,
keep an index of all open space and natural, asthetic or ecological areas within the town, with the plan of obtaining information pertinent to proper utilization of such areas, including lands owned by the state or lands owned by a town.
keep an index of all marshlands, swamps and all other wet lands in a like manner,
accurate records of its meetings and actions
file an annual report which shall be printed in the annual town municipal report.

The commission may:

advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which in its judgement it deems necessary for its work.
recommend to the selectmen a program for the protection, development or better utilization of all such areas.
