Sarah Sigman is a partner with the firm. She joined SMW in 2010 after serving as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Sidney H. Stein of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Ms. Sigman represents public agencies, land trusts, and community groups in a wide range of environmental, land use, and real estate matters.

She has represented land trusts in litigation to enforce conservation easements and to restore conservation property harmed by trespass. Ms. Sigman also represents both community groups and public agencies in CEQA and land use cases throughout California.

Ms. Sigman also advises clients regarding complex real estate transactions. She has represented the Treasure Island Development Authority and the City of Alameda on issues related to public trust law and land exchanges. Ms. Sigman also advises community groups and public agencies on issues related to environmental protection, appropriate development, and CEQA compliance.

Ms. Sigman received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was named a James Kent and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and was awarded the Alfred A. Forsyth Prize for excellence in environmental law. While at Columbia, Ms. Sigman served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law. Ms. Sigman also holds an M.S. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of California, Davis and a B.A. in political science and environmental studies from Yale University.
