Located atop a picturesque ridge, our farm offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. With the sunrise illuminating our East Orchard and the Schoodic mountains to the east, and the sunset behind our West Orchard and the hills of Dedham & Bangor to the west, the beauty of our location is truly remarkable. Just 35 minutes from Bar Harbor and the Nova Scotia ferry, our farm is surrounded by serene lakes perfect for water recreation and fishing, as well as wooded trails ideal for hiking the Schoodic Mountains.
Dating back to the 1840s, our farmhouse exudes a sense of history, while our farm has been a cherished part of the community for generations. Originally named Shalom Farm by an Episcopal minister in the 1960s, we've continued this tradition as Shalom Orchard, embracing a commitment to peace with nature through our organic farming practices. Certified organic, we specialize in growing fruit such as apples, blueberries, cherries, and raspberries for various purposes, alongside vegetables available at our farm store. We also raise chickens for eggs and meat, as well as registered Rambouillet sheep for wool and meat.
Education is at the heart of our mission, and we warmly welcome school groups and tours, participating in programs like the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners apprenticeship. Through sharing our passion for organic farming, we aim to inspire others to embrace sustainable agricultural practices and foster a deeper connection with the land.
