Sope Creek Garden Club was organized on April 25, 1947. "Sope Creek" was adopted as the name of the club because the ladies were interested in preserving the natural beauty of the Sope Creek covered bridge, one of East Cobb's most famous old landmarks. The club took on the care and beautification of the old bridge area as their main project until the bridge was burned by vandals in 1966. Sope Creek Garden Club is an active club of women who love to garden, study horticulture, floral design, landscaping and the environment. Members participate in numerous flower shows, including the North Georgia State Fair Flower Show. The club is affiliated with and actively supports the Marietta Garden Council, National Garden Clubs, Inc., The Garden Club of Georgia, Laural District, and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia
