St. Simons Island Sea Turtle Project is a volunteer group dedicated to protecting GA's turtles. We monitor SSI's beach for nests, hatchlings, & strandings. Georgia's 100-mile coast is an important nesting ground for endangered and threatened sea turtles. As an all-volunteer group working in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR), the SSI Sea Turtle Project monitors sea turtle nesting, hatching, and strandings along the St. Simons beach. We also conduct free education programs and participate in outreach events to help residents and visitors take action to protect sea turtles.
Please remember that all species of sea turtles are protected under state and federal laws. If you see a sick or injured turtle, call 1-800-2-SAVE-ME
