Stephan Tomlinson grew up around the forestry industry, and after spending his childhood helping his forester dad with jobs like planting trees, painting boundary lines, and injecting hardwoods, he vowed to never become a forester. But whether he realized it or not, the interest was there, and by the time he was a student at Auburn University, he discovered that forestry was for him.
Tomlinson started out in the industry running a thinning company, which he did for nearly a decade. It was then that he took up his dads offer to take over his business, eventually renaming it Growing Assets. Although hes located in Tuscumbia, he works with clients all over the South, and that also includes running a real estate business, Natural Resources Group, to help customers buy and sell rural timberland. When I came in we had many clients looking to buy or sell, so it was only fitting that we added the brokerage so that we could help them, he said.
When Tomlinson isnt helping clients with whatever land needs they have, hes still hands-on outdoorsjust with his kids. Theyve been working together the last three years on a timber frame that has grown into a small structure. It started out as a small summer project and its grown, Tomlinson said. Its been a fun way to spend time together.
