Our mission is to preserve the plants, animals, and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

In Indiana, since 1959 we have protected over 60,000 acres at over 180 sites across the state. Our goal is to protect a total of 100,000 acres by Indiana's bicentennial in 2016. We currently are working on sic freshwater systems: the Wabash River, the Tippecanoe River, the Blue River, the Upper St. Joseph River, Pigeon River, and Sugar Creek. Indiana is a global hotspot for caves and we have identified over 60 cave sites that we need to protect. We have a 7,600 acre prairie restoration underway in Newton County, Indiana, at a site called Kankakee Sands. This restoration is one of the largest prairie restoration projects east of the Mississippi.
