USDA's NRCS Accepting Applications for Student Internships

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is recruiting college students to participate in the agency’s Student Temporary Experience Program starting in the summer of 2011 at multiple locations in Arkansas.

Little Rock, Arkansas, Sept. 27, 2010 – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is recruiting college students to participate in the agency’s Student Temporary Experience Program starting in the summer of 2011 at multiple locations in Arkansas.

The program will allow students to receive on-the-job training while attending an accredited college or university.  Participants are expected to work full-time during summer vacation periods each summer until graduation.

The preferred fields of study are: agriculture, soil science, plant science, agronomy, forestry and engineering. Salaries will be $9.74 to $13.41 per hour depending on qualifications.

“An internship with NRCS is an excellent way to learn about the agency and gain valuable work experience with the federal government,” said Mike Sullivan, state conservationist.  “Students selected for these positions could potentially become permanent employees upon meeting qualification criteria and graduation requirements.”

The positions are available to students who will be enrolled in the Fall 2011 semester.  Students who are graduating in fall 2010 or May 2011 are not eligible unless they are enrolled in a graduate program. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

Applications should include: a resume (include volunteer work, farm or ranch work, etc.); current college transcript (can be unofficial); a list of courses currently enrolled in, a list of courses planned for the spring 2011 semester (if known), and expected graduation date; and veteran’s preference documentation (if applicable).

Applications must be received at the following address by Nov. 5, 2010:
