Stewardship with Vision - Episode 1: Jeff Laszlo

is pleased to announce the first episode of their Stewardship with Vision short film series. Episode 1 features Jeff Laszlo of Granger Ranches Montana's Madison Valley.
Agriculture Secretary announces funding for 115 conservaiton projects in 50 States

Two weeks ago, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that 115 high-impact projects across all 50 states and Puerto Rico will receive more than $370 million in Federal funding as part of the new USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

The new RCPP program includes a $17.5 million tri-state projects to help protect water quality in the western basin of Lake Erie.

USDA seeks applications for CSP, CIG funding

The USDA will make available $100 million this year through the
Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)
and although applications are accepted all year, farmers, ranchers and forest landowners should submit applications by Feb. 27, 2015 to ensure they are considered for this year's funding.

The USDA is also accepting applications for up to $20 million in grants to facilitate the creation of new, innovative markets for carbon credits as part of the
Conservation Innovation Grant program
. The application period will close Feb. 24, 2015.

"Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has reiterated the federal government will decide whether the greater sage grouse should get protected status despite legislation attempting to block such a listing."

Forest fires in winter?

Looking out the window at two feet of freshly fallen snow here in Freeport, Maine, it's hard to visualize a winter forest fire. But it's very real for those in the Central Plains.
"Over a three-day span (Jan. 17-19), 86 wildfires burned 1,322 acres in Arkansas. In approximately the same period, wildfires scorched 1,600 acres in Oklahoma."
